Zameer Akhtar was the 2nd eldest child and son of Mohsena Begum. Born on March 24, 1944, Zameer Akhtar spent all of his childhood & early adulthood in Lucknow. He began lecturing at the age of 11 and did so for almost 70 years. He completed his post graduate degree from Shia College Lucknow and moved to Karachi in 1967, where he resided until his death.
He was an acclaimed zakir (orator) and highly revered by millions. He was especially adept with the use of emotive language and poetry in delivering powerful messages from the pulpit that would rouse his audiences that often comprised of thousands. He was known for his in-depth knowledge on subjects including science, philosophy, culture, literature, sociology, journalism, language, oratory, Islamic history and religion. Throughout his life, he wrote and published almost 300 books and gave over 10,000 lectures.
He was also the Chairman of the Mir Anees Academy and the President of the Islamic Scholastic Institute. He also served as the Director for Markaz e Uloom e Islamia, Pakistan and as the editor of the quarterly magazine Al-Qalam.
